CHRISTIAN BROTHERHOOD:

WORKING TOGETHER AS BRETHERN

ALL MEN FOR CHRIST

There is no greater call than the call to brotherhood. “We are family,” as the words of Sister Sledge's 1979 hit remind us. The concept of brotherhood is seen from the very beginning of human history. Later, this concept became began to refer more directly to the need to build strong homes and families. The Baptist tradition now defines the brotherhood as a Christian auxiliary, composed of men to recruit other men into the church and to encourage strong male leadership. This definition, of course, encompasses caring for others as members of the same family, the family of God. The Greek word adelphos (brother) carries this meaning. It is a term of endearment and affinity with others and calls to mind the common bond we have with each other.
